How to measure your child's foot

It's time for paper and pencil! The easiest way to measure your child's foot is by having them stand with their foot flat on a piece of paper. It's important that the child's full weight rests on the foot, so it's stretched out and flat on the paper.

Please note, there might need to be some dancing, running, or jumping around before drawing – it makes everything a little easier.

Once the foot is positioned, draw around it and measure the drawing from toe to

heel – voila! Now you have your child's precise foot measurement. From the drawing, you can also get a sense of whether your child has a narrow, normal, or wide foot.

Now you're equipped to compare the different sizes on the webshop. We recommend that you read the measurements carefully, as the centimeter measurements can vary quite a bit from brand to brand.

  1. Make sure the foot is firmly and flat on the paper. Draw around the entire foot. Turn it into a game and let the child paint the foot afterward.

  2. Now the foot is ready to be measured. Remember the growth allowance of 1 - 1.5 cm depending on the child's age.

Regarding the growth allowance, it's important to consider the child's age. At Luksusbaby, we have developed a guide over recommended growth allowances. Besides the child's age, the type of shoe you're looking for also plays a significant role.

Here is the chart for what we would recommend in growth allowance based on the child's age.

TIP!
The shoes should fit not just in length, but also in width and height.
Don't buy footwear too big!

Shoes should be bought with a growth allowance of 1-1.5 cm, but no more than that. If the shoes are too big, the child may trip over them and expend a lot of energy keeping them on their feet.

Rubber boots, thermal boots, and ballet flats don't have the same adjustment options as shoes and boots with Velcro straps or laces. Therefore, the growth allowance here should be no more than 1 cm.
